Optimisation through maps

Wade Cockfield - Monday, January 25, 2010

Through the addition of maps into the Search algorithm, businesses are now able to generate additional organic traffic at very low cost. Prior to maps being included in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP’s) there where basically two options. Adwords or Organic. The educated businessman would have always opted for both as the more traffic you can get to your website the better chance of acquiring a customer. At Wicked Web Design we encourage our clients to look at the front page of Google as an investor would that’s interested in Real Estate. The more prime real estate you can gather the more valuable you position in the market.

As Google continues to refine its algorithm and position itself further down the “Local Search”  position, now is the perfect time to invest in more ad space on Google. With Map listings the investment is one-off and often these listings are clicked on before any of  the normal results which are located below the maps.

Below is an example of how we helped a non for profit to the top of Google.

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking

Wade Cockfield - Saturday, January 16, 2010
Recently we received some questions about how Google uses (or more accurately, doesn't use) the "keywords" meta tag in ranking web search results. Suppose you have two website owners, Alice and Bob. Alice runs a company called AliceCo and Bob runs BobCo. One day while looking at Bob's site, Alice notices that Bob has copied some of the words that she uses in her "keywords" meta tag. Even more interesting, Bob has added the words "AliceCo" to his "keywords" meta tag. Should Alice be concerned?

At least for Google's web search results currently (September 2009), the answer is no. Google doesn't use the "keywords" meta tag in our web search ranking. For further reading of this article click here.
